GOAL 2: IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP
Given that sleep is necessary for survival, learners will identify good and bad sleep habits.
Sleep deprivation affects all cognitive functions
Minor sleep deprivation can be considered 5 hours or less per night (Lowry, Dean, Mowers. 2010, p 17).
Long sleep deprivation can be defined as an extended period of 45 hours or more without sleep (Lowry, Dean, Mowers. 2010, p 17).
Studies show that there is a correlation between the amount of sleep students get effects overall GPA.
Study conducted by upper class psychology students at the University of Minnesota that surveyed 103 students showed that students that slept less than 5 hours a night had a negative effect on their GPA. Although there was not a definitive relationship between sleep and GPA. This study shows that sleep may be significant variable in students’ GPA (Lowry, Dean, Mowers. 2010, p 17).
